Basic White
2 3/4 cups sifted flour
4 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
4 egg whites
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 9x13 cake pan or two 9” round cake pans.
In a medium bowl, stir together sifted flour, baking powder, and salt.
Set aside. Cream butter and gradually add 1 cup sugar until
fluffy.
Alternating flour mixture and milk, add small amounts at a time.
Mix until smooth between additions.
Mix in vanilla flavoring.
In a separate bowl, beat egg whites until foamy.
Add 1/2 cup sugar gradually, beating until soft peaks form.
Add meringue mixture into batter, and mix well.
Pour batter into two 9" round pans or one 11x15 pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
