Wedding Cake Design Ideas
When you think of wedding cake design ideas, you are probably like most
people and immediately envision the traditional layered cake with white
frosting, faux flowers and multiple layers. However, these traditional
cakes can cost into the thousands of dollars, and can seem a little
impersonal. Also, because they tend to come ordered from a
baker’s
catalog you can’t be sure that you’re ordering a
completely unique
cake.
Unfortunately, each couple is unique and special, and the cake should
reflect that uniqueness. As the centerpiece of the celebration of your
love for each other, your wedding cake should reflect your
relationship.
Alternative Wedding Cake Designs
If you’re not aiming for the traditional white wedding, maybe
it’s time to think

outside the box when it comes to wedding
cake design ideas. You could try:
Colored cakes – One of the first decisions
you make when planning a wedding is your color scheme. In addition to
the primary white or color of the dress, you will have a couple of
colors that run through everything from the flowers to the
bridesmaids’ dresses. Use these colors to inspire your cake.
For example, if you have lilac and green as your colors, your cake
might be decorated by with lilacs and frosting greenery.
A story or themed cake – Wedding cake
design ideas normally focus around the idea of layers so you could take
advantage of this to allow the cake to tell a story or have a certain
theme. For example, it could depict the story of your relationship,
from meeting to proposal, with the story being depicted from bottom to
the top layer where the wedding couple symbolizes your journey.
Likewise, a themed cake might depict your honeymoon destination or your
shared interests. In both cases, the cake becomes more than just food
and symbolizes the bond between you, meaning that cutting the cake has
a significant role in the wedding.
Individualized cakes – If you’re
really determined to break away from the wedding cake mold, and save
yourself some money in the process, you could try asking the
bridesmaids to make their favorite cake. You then just need a fancy
cake stand on which to display all the cakes. This plan provides a wide
selection for wedding guests to enjoy, as well as a wedding cake that
made specifically for you with love and care.
Toppers
While the cake is the centerpiece of the food at your wedding, the
topper will be the

centerpiece of your cake. The traditional wedding
cake design ideas for toppers are a faceless tuxedoed man and bride in
white, but if you’re willing to plan ahead and pay a little
more, you can get personalized wedding toppers of yourself in just
about any pose you care to imagine.
You’ll need to take a
series of pictures from all angles so that they can mold your body
positions and faces as accurately as possible, but it will make for a
fantastic focal point and a long lasting memory.
Finally, when you’re coming up with wedding cake design
ideas, make sure that you set yourself a budget and plan the details of
the cake ahead before you start the real designing and decorating.
