Thomas The Tank Engine Cake

Thomas The Tank Engine Cake

I made this cake for my sons 2nd birthday using a rectangle slab cake and a jam roll cake, that were both pre-frozen.

I used the slab cake for most of the body and the jam roll for the round part on top.

It was fairly easy to make, just stack the pieces on top and shape. Some of the small tricky pieces I held in place with toothpicks. Once I was happy with the shape of the cake I used a basic crumb coat and left it to set for a while.

While it was setting I mixed my icing in 3 different colours. Black, red, and blue. Then just went ahead and iced the cake (I used a small Thomas toy to copy colours)

I used small oreo biscuits that I pulled apart and iced in black for the wheels. The cream on the other side of the biscuit helped the wheel stick to the cake.

The number '2' I used was fondant icing with yellow food colour and cut to shape. The thomas face I used was just a print out of thomas's face and covered in clear plastic contact.

This cake took a lot of patience to get the icing right. My son and all the kids loved it at the party so it was all worth it!!!
