What a fun way to celebrate with a swimming pool party cake. It doesn't
have
to be summer for this cake. If you have a swimmer they would love this
cake or if you have a kids party at a swimming pool, try this cake to
celebrate. We've included a video
tutorial below on how to make a swimming pool cake as well as step by
step photos on decorating a round pool cake.
What better way to celebrate having an afternoon pool party or
poolside birthday bash then with a swimming pool party cake. Whether
held indoors or outdoors, a pool party wouldn't be complete without a
cake created to resemble a beach ball, a pair of flip-flops or even the
pool itself. Here are some ideas for making unique pool party cakes for
any occasion.
Swimming Pool Cake Ideas
Bake a cake for a 2 layer round cake. Allow to cool and fill
your
cake layers. Add a crumb coat along the sides.
Frost the top of your cake blue and wavy for a water look.
Measure the sides of your cake and cut fondant strips to fit
the
sides of your pool. Add details as you'd like.
Ladder and Slide Swimming Pool Party Cake
Instructions:
Bake two round cakes, any flavor
Frost sides and about three inches over the top of the
cakes with white icing
Frost center of the cake with blue icing (water)
Cover an ice cream wafer cone with white frosting, place
upside down on white area of cake
Create a slide from fruit strips that run down from top of
wafer into blue icing
Make a ladder from pretzel sticks
Break pretzel sticks in half to use as rungs
Place teddy bear crackers on ladder (as though they were
climbing)
Also place teddy bears in the blue icing
Fun Pool Party Ideas
Send invitations as "messages in a bottle"
With a permanent marker, write pool party information on
mini-beach balls and hand them personally to guests
Purchase cheap kids sunglasses and write party information
on the plastic lenses as invitations
If you are giving a poolside "pirate party", create
invitations that look like a treasure map
Instead of plain tablecloths, use themed beach towels as
tablecloths (Spongebob, pirates, fish)
Use seashells as decoration
Hang beach balls around the party area like balloons are
usually hung
Place plastic palm trees around pool (hang stuffed animal
monkeys from the branches)
Throw a bunch of toys into the pool--noodles, boogie
boards, inflatable rings
Give each guest a beach ball and permanent marker and have
them autograph each other's blown-up beach ball
This is another fun way to decorate a pool cake using Jell-O.
Swimming pool party cakes are also fun to make for adult pool birthday
or anniversary parties as well. Suggestions for these might include
combining an "over the hill" type party with a pool-themed cake or
placing gag toys around the pool such as a walker or wheelchair.
