Bold Icing Colors
It will be necessary to develop bold colors to make your spiderman cake
more animated. Most cake decorators prefer to use a food coloring paste
instead of the drops you may remember Mom using. Food coloring paste
comes in a jar and can be purchased anywhere you buy other professional
cake decorating supplies. The primary advantage of pastes is being able
to add enough color to get the correct hue without diluting the icing
and making it liquidy.
To get a bold red I suggest tinting the icing in phases. Begin by
creating a light pink, and then add enough coloring to make a true red
icing. Other decorators like to color the icing from white to yellow to
orange to red allowing time for the color to set several hours between
changes. If you have time to plan, you will be able to create a better
color as icing darkens after setting for a few hours. See these tips on
making red and black icing.
Black Icing and spider Webs
Creating a web is a simple as making black rings inside of each other
with a small round tip. When you have several rings, make a circle of
black in the center. Use a toothpick or knife to pull the color from
the center of the cake to the edge, similar to the way you would swirl
the cake batter to make a marble cake, but use straight lines.
A Beginner Cake
Are you looking for a fast or easy way to bring spiderman to your
desert table? How about a cupcake? Cupcakes are perfect for sharing,
don’t have to be cut, and are fun to decorate. Using a large star tip
make a huge swirl of your favorite spidey-color and top it off with a
spiderman decorating candy, party favor, or themed candle.
A More Difficult Cake Using a Face
Making a face will give you a chance to challenge your art and
decorating skill. Use templates by printing pictures and cutting them
out, or draw your own template for the eyes. By flipping the template
over you will be able to make a perfect mirror image. Use your small
round tip to outline each shape and then fill them in using a star or
grass decorating tip.
