Space Cake Ideas

These space cake ideas can be used for a space theme party, Star Wars Party, astronaut party, etc. Your cake could include a rocket ship, space shuttle, moon, planets or an astronaut. The ideas can be alot of fun and make the cake the hit of the party.

Rocket Ship Cake

To make a rocket ship cake or space shuttle cake, you will need a 13x9 baked cake that has cooled. Cut your cake down the middle to create two long rectangles. On your cake board add cake foil to the bottom and place one long rectangle towards the bottom of the board.

Cut your remaining rectangle in half. Then one of the remaining halves into 4 triangles as shown in diagram.

Place the rectangle half above your longer rectangle for the rocket body. Add a triangle for the pointed top. Add another triangle to each side of the bottom of the rocket. Add a crumb coat and allow to sit several hours.

You can use this same idea above and add more layers of cake to create a space shuttle cake. You will need to make two or three layers and carve the front of your cake. Crumb coat and add details. A wing could be made from a frosted sugar cookie.

More Ideas for Space Cakes

  • Create a cake by frosting a round double or single layer cake with frosting mixed with candy bits. This makes a great rocky look to a cake that works well for a planet or moon cake.
  • Add a space shuttle topper or candle to a grass or rocky decorated cake.
