Reverse Shell Border


The reverse shell border is a twist on the traditional shell border that is used to finish the edges of your cake. This cake decorating technique is used a lot on the top edge of the cake with the regular shell border along the bottom edge.

Tip #'s 16-21 work best for a border with reverse shells. Remember the smaller the number the smaller the decoration and vice versa.

Cake Decorating Supplies Needed

Cake Decorating Instructions

  • Hold your bag at a 45 degree angle

  • Squeeze while moving your bag up and around to the left and back down (similar to a circular motion)

  • Stop squeezing and pull the bag away

  • Starting on the "tail" or the end of the last shell, squeeze while moving your bag up and around to the right in the opposite direction as before

  • Continue piping reverse shells along the edge of the cake in opposite directions as you go
