This was a quick-mix chocolate cake. I made it for a friend's daughter's 18th birthday. I started with 18 roses and ended up with 20.

Step #1 Make cake

2 cups Self raising flour
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup sugar
1 cup butter/margarine
1 egg
1 cup plain yogurt
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder

The great thing about this cake is that you can mix it in any fashion. Just throw every thing into a large bowl and mix until the sugar has completely dissolved. I actually mixed this with my hands because my mixer is broken.
Bake until well risen or cake springs back when lightly pressed n the center

Step #2 Make Pastillage.
1 pk unflavoured gelatin
1 tsp cream of tartar
5 cups icing Sugar
liquid glucose
Dissolve the gelatin with a little hot water. Add gelatin to the other ingredients. Add enough liquid glucose to bind into a smooth dough. Knead the dough for 10 min.
Take a piece of the dough and add desired coloring.
Make flowers(calla Lilly, Roses etc), leaves, etc.
Leave to dry.

Step#3
Apply fondant.Then Royal Icing.

Step#4
After icing has dried, apply writing using piping consistency.

Step#5
Apply pastillage roses.

Step #6
Use up excess icing piping swoops around the side.

I looooooove the sway of the roses against the "shiny" icing! just work with the actual photo lighting. : )
