Painting on Fondant

Did you know you can finish your cake by painting on fondant? This is a great technique when working with fondant. Even if you aren't an experienced painter, if you can watercolor you can paint your cake. You will paint by using gel coloring mixed with water.

Start your cake project with a good cake recipe. Allow to cool and cover your cake with fondant. Prepare ahead how you'd like your cake to look and sketch out on paper what your design will be before you start painting.

In a small bowl, mix a small amount of your gel or paste coloring and water. Stir together with a fork until coloring is all dissolved. When painting on your cake, use a clean or new paintbrush and only use a light amount of paint on your brush.
