Our 1 Year Anniversary Of Cake Decorating !!!

Our 1 Year Anniversary Of Cake Decorating !!!

by Wes Jaci
(Montana ,Usa)

Ok , So it's a little late again. Our Actual 1 year anniversary landed on Mother's day this Year but either way What an Accomplishment.

Ever SO Happy & Proud LoL, so far I have learned alot about how to make cakes and Buttercream icing.

I've explored different kinds of cakes even to trying out Velvet Cakes, which i have to say Red Velvet cake is By far My favorite cake. Lemon cake I believe is by far my husband's favorite cake. I tried lots of different flavors from strawberry short cake to raspberry filling and old fashioned butter cream. That i have to admit was Yummmy as well.

So were here Now 1 year later so here is the story of the Anniversary cake. I went to our Kitchen and realized that we were out of milk. But that didn't stop me, Hehehe, I used all the ingredients to make a yellow cake all without the milk, I was worried, if it was going to turn out ok LOL.

But it definitely turned out pretty dang good I say LOL. Actually seemed more like pound cake Heheheheh, which was Awesome.

I made 2 batches of buttercream. I like doing it that way, back in the beginning when first getting into cake decorating. I had no clue as to how much buttercream to make for a cake that would be enough to cover and decorate a cake. Now at least for 2 round 9 in cake pans, I know that I need 2 batches of buttercream icing. Adding 2 -1 Teaspoons of Vanilla extract, but for this cake I only added 1-1/2 teaspoons. I find putting aluminum foil underneath when your pouring powdered sugar into the measuring cup to add to your buttercream icing works to keep the table clean., Not me of course, I still get powder sugar all over my clothing LOL Hahahahahaha,,,,, But it's still incredibly fun.

I Absolutely LOVE my turn table my husband bought me a few months ago , works so well, I just love it.

Now my buttercream is ready Now for the fun part , this is the part I LOVE to do , Decorate The Cake !!!!!

First step putting just a little buttercream on the turn table. Then put, I believe, what they call doilies on to make the bottom Look nice & Pretty, I put 2 on.

Then put my first cake on after putting more buttercream icing on top of the doilies.
Time for the filling.

All covered now heheheh, let's get the second half of the cake on top now There we go, It really does seem like pound cake to me , even though its yellow cake LOL . Ohh crumb coating time, now this is a great part, and does it ever work well, because your allowed to have crumbs going into this icing, Lol.

Now for crumb coating the top. Now to let it sit in fridge for about oh 15 Minutes, to crust up.
Ok so it's been 10 Minutes, I guess you could say I need to gain more patience LOL. Now time to recover the cake, since it's been crumb coated. Look at that doesn't that book so nice CRUMB free LOL. Woohooo, just gotta Love it. Definitely learning the tricks of cake decorating Yup Yup

Covering the top of the cake now. All finished, time to put cake back in fridge for another 15 minutes or so. Now to take some wax paper placing it on top of the cake to see if I can make it look more smoother. Using my fondant smoother, I really love this tool as well, Gotta love these cake decorating products LOL. Now look at that, nice & smooth, Just Awesome !!!
Time to work on shell border, I believe i used a tip 18 for this.

Ok, so it's been a while since I did drop strings, Guess you could say I still need to work on this LOL but hey practice makes perfect.
Now this is looking pretty so far.
I have to say, summer time is not the best weather for icing, especially when you're trying to make decent roses. Now I know that if it was cooler my roses would have looked a whole lot better.

This is honestly were I believe I messed up, I now don't think I should have done this second row, of drop strings, just a back fire, LOL. But I do seem to be getting better in the writing department of cake decorating.

Ok, so here we have it. Our 1 Year Cake Decorating Anniversary Cake, We are So Happy & Proud, & very Excited, feeling as though as this door of normal cakes is closing and opening another door for hopefully much more different type of cakes that aren't just the normal type of cakes you would buy at a store.

We have defiantly learned a lot throughout this first year. Looking forward to what all were going to learn in this next year of cake decorating, Truly feeling like we are working our way out of beginner stages of cake decorating and on our way to being Intermediate Cake Decorating. Maybe in less than a couple of years, becoming a professional cake decorator.

I have to admit, cake decorating is really addicting and sure is fun. Apparently I have been told it's a form of meditation. I think I have to agree with that, because once I start to decorate, I tend to forget everything else. My tea gets cold, food goes cold, it really occupies the mind, and helps clear the mind because all I think about is the cake I am working on LOL.
So we truly hope you have enjoyed our first year cake journey with us as much as we have enjoyed sharing it with you and so hope you continue to follow our cake journey as we explore how to make many more different and hopefully much bigger types of cake, as they say one door closes another one opens.

Very curious as to what our cake decorating Journey holds for us.
