Motorcycle Cake

A motorcycle cake is a lot of fun for those daredevils who love motorcycles or little boys who love to play with things that go “zoom”. You might think a motorcycle themed cake would be difficult to create but by following directions and looking at pictures of other cakes, you too can make a nifty cake for your motorcycle-loving child, husband or friend.

The Foundation

Rectangular sheet cakes work well when creating original two dimensional motorcycle images with frosting.

For those feeling brave, you can also make a motorcycle with two-layer cakes and using a knife to cut out wheels and the body of the bike. After carving the pieces in the shape you want them, decorate with gray and black frosting.

Decorate your cake to look like a dirt road with crumbled cookie crumbs and green grass. Add toy motorcycles to the scene.

For a glittery effect on the chrome parts of the motorcycle, sprinkle silver sugar glitter over them

A child's motorcycle themed cake doesn't have to be as realistic as an adult's cake. Use bright frosting colors instead and make the motorcycle more cartoonish. Kids like colorful things and they'll get more excited about a motorcycle cake emblazoned with a motorcycle that looks like something Bugs Bunny would ride.

Motorcycle-themed Decorations

Checkered flags can be purchased at fabric or party supply stores in various sizes
Use a large piece of a checkered flag fabric as a tablecloth
Purchase mini-motorcycles to be used as table decorations. Or, for children's parties, use them as door prizes or as part of favor bags
Harley-Davidson's official colors are black and orange so use streamers in this color to decorate for an adult party Hand out stickers and temporary tattoos to children as door prizes

Activities and Games

Piñatas are always fun for either an adult or child's birthday party. If you can't find a motorcycle piñata at a local party supply store, you probably won't have any problem finding one to purchase on the internet.

For a kids' party, create a motorcycle track using flattened cardboard boxes and let the kids pretend they are racing motorcycles. Encourage them to use engine noises and tooting horns.

During winter or a rainstorm, renting motorcycle racing video games and having tournaments is a good way to entertain an older crowd of kids (or adults for that matter).

Instead of playing that old standby of "pin the tail on the donkey", make a life-sized version of a motorcycle driver from newsprint or white posterboard and play pin the helmet on the driver.
