I made this cake for a 16th birthday party.
Jade was very specific about the decorations- lots of bows and glitter! She wanted a chocolate cake but also wanted vanilla frosting to keep it all nice and bright.
I have taken a pic of it before all the decorations went on too, as I kind of like it simple as well.
I decided to try out making a mould of the base, using melted white chocolate with food colouring- it worked a treat, and looked just like a shiny cupcake liner -but getting the cake into it required a bit of shaving!
The bows and "16"s are sugar paste, covered edible glue and rolled in edible glitter.
I like to cook the base section for ten minutes, then grease the top pan, and fill that, and cook for a further 40 minutes. I have an Aga, so this is the middle shelf of the baking oven.
After the cakes are cooled I wrap them and freeze overnight, because as you have said, dirty icing them is far easier when frozen.
I thought I'd share this as the info I found here was invaluable (thank you!), so I thought it only fair to pass on my experience with it!
