How much icing for cupcakes?

I'm making butter cream icing for cupcakes that will have just a plain swirl with a large 1M tip. How many cupcakes will a batch (about 3 cups) of icing cover?

Answer: This is a guesstimate! Your swirl will take a little more frosting than if you were to just frost the top.

If you were to frost the top of cupcakes with a tub of frosting which has 2 cups in it-it would frost 24 cupcakes. Using that and the fact that you will be using 3 cups of icing and using more icing because of the swirl I would think you could swirl 30-35 cupcakes.
