Guinea Pig Cake

This cake was for my daughter's 16th birthday (one of two) It was done as a joke, but turned out so cute and was super easy. I baked a cake mix in 2 square cake pans. I leveled the bottom layer cake, but not the top. I left it rounded. After I stacked the two cakes with icing in the middle, I just cut out the shape of the guinea pig. It's a lot like a tear drop with the end rounded instead of at a point.

I mixed two different shades of brown icing and kept some white. You could also use all one color, but I wanted the variation. I frosted the nose just using a butter knife. Then I pressed in his eye, which are brown M&M's and outlined them (that's really optional, though) I added a little pink nose with icing. The rest of his body is done entirely with a star tip. I started with one color of the brown, putting it where ever I wanted it and then, use the next shade of brown. Finally I filled in everything else with the white. It's really simple.
The final touch was his ears. They're made out of brown fondant, rolled really thin. I made a fat little oval and then cut it in half. Put the flat side down into the icing and let the top droop a little. You may need to add a few more stars to hold them in place.
That's it! You have a guinea pig cake!
