The Hobby Cake

One of the most popular varieties of groom cake ideas is the hobby cake. This particular type of cake should reflect a certain aspect of the groom’s life, usually in the form of a hobby or interest. For some this may be sports, for others it may be stamp collecting.

Regardless of what may be the groom’s passion, using something they love as an inspiration for their cake will inevitably be appreciated and remembered for years to come. If you’re not much of a cake decorator, or to see if your groom’s passion has it’s own cake pan, the Wilton Company offers a large selection of pre-shaped specialty pans in a variety of themes.

The Time Line Cake

The timeline cake is one of the most fun grooms cake ideas and is also a sentimental way to celebrate the life and marriage of the groom. For this type of cake, you will need:
  • A 13x9 or larger sheet cake
  • Several pictures of the groom. Try and have pictures from various events throughout his life to really show the transition from childhood to adult life.
You will need to have these pictures turned into edible cake images that can be placed on your cake in chronological order. To do this, you can order edible prints from certain online companies, or buy the edible paper and ink cartridges and print them yourself. If you are going to order, we recommend purchasing through the Icing Images.

Once you have placed your pictures you can then decorate the area around them with a sentimental message or a colorful frosting border.

The Engagement Photo Cake

The engagement photo cake is a great way to celebrate the love and marriage of the groom-to-be while still leaving room for fun and sarcasm. Like many other grooms cake ideas, this type of cake involves the use of an edible image.

  • Select a picture of the bride and groom together. It doesn’t have to be a professional portrait, just one that captures the spirit of their relationship.
  • Frost the cake in the grooms favorite colors or in the colors of the wedding party and then place your edible image onto the cake.

  • You may then choose to use a witty saying to add humor to the cake something like “We send our prayers with you as you embark on this journey.... because you’re going to need it.” These types of sayings show your love but also infuse a bit of humor into this typically emotional and sentimental situation.

The grooms cake, while not used at every wedding is a fun and unique way to celebrate your love and well wishes for the groom-to-be. Grooms cakes can be as humorous or as sentimental as the situation calls for. Infinite varieties of grooms cakes ideas exist and whichever one you use is really dependent on your groom. No matter what design you decide to use, don’t forget to upload your creation to our online cake gallery!
