Dinosaur Cake 3d

A dinosaur cake 3D is a fun way to celebrate a birthday. Your stand up cake will end up being the highlight of the party. This type of cake takes a little more work then your average cake but is fun to create. Start with a good strong cake such as a pound cake. For a stand up cake, you are better off using a pound cake recipe then a super moist cake as it is easier to fall apart when you are assembling it.

Free Cake Decorating Ideas:

A 3D dinosaur or any animal can be made by baking 2- 8in circles or one circle and one square. Cut one circle in half and stand semicircles up with the flat end down. This is the body. You can shape the neck as you'd like by shaving some of the circle off or leave completely round for the body

With another cake circle cut out cake pieces for the tail, neck and legs. Piece the body parts together with icing. Frost a crumb coat and let it set for several hours or overnight. Decorate.

Alternatively instead of two circle cakes you can use a ball pan or batter bowl to shape the body. Bake an additional cake that you can use to cut out head, legs, neck and tail.

Dragon or Dinosaur Stand Up Cake

Using the teddy bear cake pan, I added a piece of cake for a tail and cut off the bear ears. I added stars throughout his body and added fondant spikes down the middle of his back and tail.

The white of his eyes are fondant circles then I added details with black frosting.

It works well for a dragon or dinosaur cake with some personality.

This started out as a square cake. I just hacked it into squares (12) and started stacking them. Once I liked the outcome I covered it in buttercream, then fondant. Came out way better than I thought. used a tip (the part that attaches to coupler) to make "scales". And hand painted it with green and brown food color. Chucky the Birthday Boy loved it.
