Planning for a party that includes a dinosaur birthday cake allows you
to create party decorations and games from the cakes decoration.
Ancient jungles and forests where dinosaurs once lived allow you to use
plastic dinosaurs on top of the cake as cake decorations. Cover the
sheet cake in mixed shades of green icing with blue ponds created from
melted sugar and blue food coloring. Strategically placing plastic
trees with many types of dinosaurs is only one way to create this 3D
dinosaur cake.
Decorating Dinosaur Cakes
Creating a singular dinosaur may be more challenging but to the
dino-loving birthday person, worth it. Cut and assemble cupcakes,
bread-pan cakes and cut sheet cakes into the shape of a favorite dinosaur. Then
use icing in fun green, purple and black or whatever colors your
birthday child chooses to create the details.
Cupcakes provide an easy way to decorate dinosaur birthday cakes and
clean up may be easier as each portion is self-contained. Placing
individually iced cupcakes together into one larger cake gives the
appearance of a full sheet cake without cutting individual servings.
Use marshmallows to create hills and small mountains for flying
dinosaurs and small fondant plants give land-dwelling dinosaurs a place
to get out of the sun.
Use dinosaur stencils to create dinosaur shapes with colored glitter and other cake
decorating non-pariels. Overlaying dinosaurs creates a unique style of
decorating that allows guests to try to count how many different
dinosaurs are on top of the cake. This type of cake provides a party
game as each guest counts the number of dinosaurs they see and the
winner receives a prize.
Hiding toys and Sweets in the Cake
Using flat-bottomed ice cream cones filled with gummy worms, candy
bones or small plastic dinosaurs, young archeologists can dig through
cake cubes and pudding topped with icing. Using a very large, cleaned
and lined flowerpot, guests can scoop out a portion using a
sand-digging toy and discover the hidden treasures inside.
Topping a flowerpot dino excavation pot with icing that may include
modern day items including roads, sign posts and miniature tools will
be a twist on a familiar theme.
Layering cut sections of a sheet cake, cupcakes to create a mountain
complete with caves and hidden bones, apply a mixture of green and
brown icing. Place plastic dinosaurs and candy minerals around, giving
guests the chance to choose a slice of history. Dinosaurs, hard candy
bones, gummy skeletons and rock candy crystals embedded in icing and
between cake layers are just a few ways to create a fun, archeological
dinosaur cake.
