Lilie's castle cake

Lilie's castle cake

I made this castle cake for my daughter's 5th birthday. I baked three 9 or 10 (can't remember) square cakes and a 6 square cake. I used one of the large squares and cut it into four pieces to put on the edges of the cake for the towers. For the cones I used upside down ice cream cones and iced them pink. The flags were made out of construction paper and toothpicks. I iced the whole cake in pink icing and used a round tip with pink icing to make the sides look like rocks. I trimmed the bottom with the grass tip and green icing.

My daughter and her friends went crazy over this cake. At first, they didn't want to eat it! It was a lot easier to make than i thought it would be. I had never attempted anything like this before.

I love this cake. I would adapt it a bit (because I have a son, no pink icing haha) Are the characters from a kit? Have you ever tried using fondant? I think I will have to attempt a cake like this one day!
