As most hobbies go you can really spend a lot on different cake decorating supplies. We talked about the basic cake decorating tools you will need to decorate cakes. These are the most important. Here are a few added things to ease your decorating experience and where to buy cake supplies online.

If you have a turntable for your cakes it makes it easier to decorate around your cake especially when you are doing a border or a continuous design on all sides of your cake.

I have one and it has made a big difference. It also makes it easier to frost the sides of your cake.

Mixer

My favorite kitchen appliance,

You need a good mixer especially if you are going to be making a lot of cakes. I recommend a good heavy duty mixer.

My favorite mixer of all time is a Kitchen Aid. It is worth every penny I spent! I haven't met a person with a Kitchen Aid yet that didn't love it.

It may seem silly to buy a tool box for cake decorating but this will keep all your pastry tips, bags and spatulas in one carry all. I like that it holds icing colors and bottles of flavorings and I don't lose anything.

Variety of Cake Pans

You will need several sizes of pans I reccommend having:

• 2 basic round 8 or 9 inch pans
• 9 inch square
• 13x9 pan
• heart cake pan but you can get buy shaping a heart out of a circle and a square cake pan.
  

These will be the basic sizes once you have these you can add on more such as:

• several smaller circles about 4 inches and 6 inches-makes fun tier cakes to go with your 9 inch circle or mini cakes.
• Large circle pan-often times you can buy a set with an 8, 10, 12 & 14 in. pans
• Mini loaf pans- great for making legs or arms if you are shaping your cake. Also fun for mini cake sizes.
  
• Character cake pans. Many shapes and sizes to pick from. Pick with the idea of how much use you will get out of it. If you aren't a professional cake decorator some people buy speciality cake pans and then sell them when they are done.
