Blues Clues Cake

Using a Cake Template

If you have some experience designing and decorating cakes, using a template to create your Blue’s Clues-inspired cake provides different design options. Find templates available for printing online such as this Blues Clues template that requires 13x9 pan or a simple Blues Clues template from NickJr Alternatively, you can purchase a pattern with directions from your local craft store.

To use a cake template:

• Start with an unfrosted sheet cake in a 13x9 size pan
• Let the cake cool
• Place the template on top of the cake
• Use a knife to cut around the pattern, disposing of the excess cake
• With the trademark blue frosting, crumb coat the entire cake
• Refrigerate, letting the cake set for one hour
• Apply a second layer of frosting on the cake
• Smooth the frosting until you are satisfied 

Once you are happy with the shape and base layer of frosting, decorate with craft eyes, blue sprinkles, a piece of pink taffy and other colors and elements that bring the cake to life. For additional details or outlining the cake, pipe black or dark blue frosting onto the cake.

After you bake the pre-shaped cake, let it cool before you begin to frost it. Follow the instructions that came with the cake pan, using a piping bag and different tips to outline and fill in the details.
