Anniversary Cake Styles
You have a couple of choices when it comes to selecting the
cake’s style and your choice should be reflective of the
personalities of the honorees. The classic anniversary cake might be an
elegantly decorated white tiered cake in the same style as a wedding
cake. Usually simply decorated, it can also display the number of years
the couple has shared together.
Another popular choice for the occasion would be a novelty cake. More
common for small or informal parties, by shape and design this cake may
resemble a golf course, recreational vehicle, or some other element in
the couple’s lives. With some practice, you can even design
the cake in the shape of the anniversary year. With a novelty cake,
your anniversary cake ideas and creativity have free rein.
Anniversary Cake Types
Virtually any type of cake can be at the heart of your anniversary cake
ideas. Besides the
classic white cake, you might consider a black
forest cake, chocolate mousse cake,
strawberry, or even angel food. A
multilayer cake, round or rectangular, can have different flavors in
each layer and have plenty of room for decorations. A large sheet cake
doesn’t look as impressive as a lavish tiered cake but it is
easier to transport.
Using fondant instead of a regular icing can help
preserve the form of the cake and it is an excellent medium for
decorating. You can even
make flowers or heart out of fondant to place
on the cake.
Decorations and Flourishes
Anniversary cakes decorations may include flowery designs and candles
in the form of the number of married years. Other anniversary cake
ideas include:
- A flower bouquet design on top representing the
bride’s original bouquet
- A dancing couple cake topper reminiscent of the
couple’s wedding dance
- Decorations that illustrate the couple’s hobbies
or passions in life
- A photo of the happy couple copied on edible film and
placed on the icing
- The couple’s names and wedding date written in
icing on the cake
- Figurines representing the couple with interlocking wedding
rings
Decorate by Anniversary Year
Every anniversary year has a theme and decorating the cake in
accordance with that is always tasteful, especially for the major
anniversaries like 25th and 50th.
It is customary to decorate the cake for the 10th anniversary to
reflect the location of the wedding or honeymoon. For the 12th
anniversary, traditionally considered the silk or pearl anniversary, a
fitting decoration might be bordering the cake with edible pearl beads
and silk luster powder. Other year’s themes include:
25th: Since it is the silver anniversary, decorate
with silver accents and a silver picture frame on top of the cake with
the couple’s wedding photo.
35th: Called the coral or jade anniversary, utilize
these colors in the cake.
40th: This ruby anniversary calls for red sugar gemstones
used to embellish the cake.
50th: The golden anniversary cake should feature golden
accents, such as edible gold leaf and a cake topper in the form of gold
rings.
75th: If the couple lives to see this milestone, the theme
should be diamonds and gold.
Creative anniversary cake ideas will add panache to any anniversary
party. Make it personal and distinctively tailored to the honorees.
Whether classic or novel in design, the cake is the hub around which
the party revolves.
