Angry Birds Cake

Angry Birds Cake

by Katie Duncan
(Austin, TX)

I made this cake for my son's 5th birthday. He's a huge Angry Birds fan and wanted it to be REALLY BIG. The top is actually a 4x4 inch styrofoam cube covered in wood paneled fondant with fondant accents.

The bottom tier is a chocolate cake covered in ganache and decorated with giant rock jelly beans. The middle two tiers are vanilla cake and iced with Swiss Meringue Buttercream.

The "grass" borders were piped on with the Wilton tip #233. The structures are made of Kit-Kats and Twix. (I figured candy would be more kid friendly than more fondant) The birds and pigs are made of fondant mixed with a little Tylose powder to make them dry faster.

Originally I made a slingshot out of fondant but my 2 year old got to it before I could put it on the cake! The "candle" on top is actually a sparkler! The cake was a hit with my son and his friends! I've actually got another order for the exact same one from another friend so I'll be able to add more elements next time.
