Alice in Wonderland Cake

So I only started cake decorating in the past year, after watching a lot of t.v shows about cake decorating, it looked to be a lot of fun, so I taught myself how. A co-worker/friend of mine was looking for a special cake for her 5 year old niece who has leukemia. She told me that she loves Alice in Wonderland, so I wanted to try and create something extra special for her.
A week before the cake was due, I went to a local bulk barn to purchase the things I thought I would need.
I made the face of the Cheshire cat by drawing a template on paper and with a knife cutting it out of a mixture of gumpaste and fondant that I tinted purple. I then added the facial features with some more gumpaste.
I made the tea cups with a cordial chocolate mold, and used a medium circle cutter for the saucers. I brushed everything with edible pearl dust.
I made Alice's body by rolling fondant into a thick triangle shape and draping it in blue fondant to make it look like the bottom of the dress.
I rolled out skin colored sausage shapes for Alice's legs, and little black shoes which I glued onto the legs with a mixture of gumpaste and water.
I made gumpaste flowers with a small flower cutter, and used a ball tool to push the middle in, and added some edible pearl beads in the middle.
I used green tinted gumpaste to make the little leaves with a leaf cutter. For the roses I simply cut strips of pink fondant, folded them in half and rolled them to look like a whimsical rose.
I made the clock by cutting a thick piece of gumpaste and a circle cutter, and then rolled a thin sausage shape and attached it around. I then painted the outer rim with a mixture of lemon extract and gold pearl dust. I used an edible marker to write the numbers on the clock.
When I constructed the cake I used dowel rods, and smooth iced buttercream, and then added strips of fondant over it.
For the top tiers design I used a stamp along the sides, and traced over it in buttercream, and piped borders around the cake. I used green buttercream to pipe grass along the top.
